I recently booked a Cosmetic Acupuncture session with Mary Heaven Acupuncture to see what this natural anti-aging procedure was all about. It’s known as a natural alternative to Botox and fillers. A lot of celebrities such as Jennifer Aniston, Kim Kardashian, and Gwyneth Paltrow are fans of this acu-face-lift. I became more and more interested in this holistic approach to anti-aging because it involves no chemicals.
As a mother of three children, I always feel like I look tired. My face and I have a love-hate relationship, and most of the time I don’t like how it looks. I feel self conscious without makeup, and I’m not a fan of my forehead wrinkles, crow’s-feet, sun damage, and dark under eye circles. I want to look and feel young, and be able to do it without worrying about possible side effects.
Facial Acupuncture stimulates healing, improves circulation, and produces collagen. Unlike Botox, which freezes muscles, Acupuncture strengthens and relaxes the muscles through stimulation of the bodies innate repairing mechanisms.
What’s so great about this treatment is it not only includes facial acupuncture but a body treatment. My prime concern was to concentrate on facial aesthetics, but additionally address the stress and anxiety that I’m experiencing in my life. This treatment is a great way to access our emotions and experience them in a supportive way. I had no idea such an all encompassing treatment like Cosmetic Acupuncture even existed.
The needles were placed into my skin at specific points in the body where vital energy is said to flow, called meridians, to improve circulation, unblock “stuck” energy, and help the body to rejuvenate. Blue LED light was placed over my face and I was able chill out in a pair of black goggles for 30 minutes before removing the needles. Blue light LED therapy is antibacterial and anti-inflammatory and used to treat Acne/Rosacea. Alternately, you can receive red LED light therapy, which is amazing for boosting collagen and reducing wrinkles.
My acupuncturist Mary Heaven, M.S. L.Ac. told me that a typical Acu-face-lift program is 10 sessions, with significant improvements noticed around treatment 5. She said that: “This is a cumulative process and with each treatment we are building muscle tone to prevent sagging skin, strengthening the muscles to prevent contraction, which causes wrinkles, boosting the collagen to plump the skin and stimulating the circulation and lymph flow to get rid of undereye circles and puffy cheeks. Cosmetic Acupuncture is like taking your face to the gym and it improves steadily with each mind & body melting treatment.”
I didn’t expect to see results in my face after one session, but my skin did feel so much smoother afterwards. It wasn’t so red in spots and it did feel healed. A few of my blemishes went away from the initial treatment. Facial acupuncture really does work the fine lines. The experience was pain less, a relaxing treatment that I would definitely do again to continue seeing results. It gave me some alone time to re-center myself. Cosmetic Acupuncture is an amazing modality for balancing mind, body, and soul. Needless to say I can’t wait for my next session with Mary Heaven!
