Once I found out our third baby, Nico, was a boy I knew right away I wanted his nursery to have a nautical theme. The inspiration behind this was the place where my husband and I met, Salve Regina University in Newport, RI. Newport is a beautiful beach town that we both love. Another inspiration for the nautical theme is my childhood hockey obsession as a Hartford Whalers hockey fan. I needed to have “The Whale” in my baby boy’s room. I had so much fun decorating Nico’s nursery. Of all the rooms in my house, it’s my favorite.
I started on his nursery in the spring time. Because we were getting into the summer season many of the stores had a ton of nautical items for sale. The color palette involves navy blues, creams and pops of gray.
Nico used the same beautiful off white crib his sisters did from Bratt Decor. The quality of this crib has been awesome, even now 7 years after we purchased it. The crib bedding (sheets, bedskirt and bumpers) came from Pottery Barn kids. The Monique Lhuillier collection was having a sale on all of their bedding which resulted in significant savings. I have a particular affinity for Monique Lhuillier as she was also my wedding dress designer!
I wanted to use a lot of wall art and knick-knacks that reinforced the “nautical” theme of the room. Home Goods had so much to choose from and also the Christmas Tree shop. A nautical themed nursery is classic and timeless.
